Mercruiser Drive Couplers
Boat engine revs, but prop doesnt turn. Mechanic said it was a broken coupler. Am I being scammed?
The Boat starts fine, when I engage throttle, Engine Revs up, but Boat doesnt move. I haven't been a boat owner very long and I can only compare it to having a broken transmission. Initially I thought I lost my prop, but that wasnt the case. The Boat has a 4 Cylinder 2.5 Litre engine with an Mercruiser Stern Drive. The boat is a 1986 or 87, 17ft Thundercraft Bowrider. Any thoughts?
Doesn't sound like a spun prop hub. Usually the boat will move forward with the engine idling and the prop will begin to slip after you increase RPM's. Sounds more like a broken shaft or coupler. I would trust the mechanic.
