Hello, I have a loud clunking noise coming from the back of my boat (baja 350 MAG with a alpha 2nd generation drive) noise is near my drive or behind the engine, only when it is put into gear (when i put into gear it goes nowhere, in neutral there is no noise) and noise gets louder when I rev the RPM's up. What can be causing this noise? what can be broken?? PLEASE HELP!!
For boat drive systems, the vast majority of the time they either will engage properly in the lower unit or they don't work at all.
Are you trying to put it in gear but the shift cable fails to respond fully and makes noise, or does the shifter go completely into gear but the boat won't move?
If the shift cable refuses to fully engage, this may be a host of problems. No way to tell without a detailed inspection and diagnosis.
However, if the cable fully allows shifting into gear but no movement and very loud thumping sound occurs, its a good bet that either of the following went out: Clutch Dog, main shaft gear, or forward gear.
This is not something to try and diagnosis yourself. Get it to a certified Merc service shop and get it inspected and fixed.
If you are in the habit of shifting into gear too slowly from neutral, stop it. You should always quickly go from neutral to gear, never stretch out the transition, or risk damage to the gearbox.
I forewarn you, be prepared to bring out the wallet. Lower unit gearbox repairs are expensive. Gotta pay to play, both in good and bad times regarding boating.
Boston is known as one of the most expensive cities in America and for good reason. But there is still a lot a traveler can do in Boston without spending a single dollar.
1. U.S.S. Constitution In 1794, George Washington signed a bill that commissioned the U.S. Navy to construct six frigate class ships, the first ships to be newly built by the new nation. Of the original six, only one still exists, the U.S.S. Constitution, built in Boston and today docked at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston Harbor. Set afloat in October, 1787, the Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world today, and is a must see for any visitor to Boston. The ship itself earned its famous nickname "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812 because its wooden hulls were able to repel enemy canon balls as if the ship's sides were made of iron. Please know that ship is still a U.S. Navy vessel, and all the security you'd expect to see when visiting an aircraft carrier are in operation here. The sailors themselves do the security, and they are mostly affable and friendly and try to make the security procedures as harmless as possible.
2. Bunker Hill Monument Within eyesight of the ship Constitution is a 221' obelisk built to honor those volunteer soldiers who fought and died during the Battle of Bunker Hill, which took place on June 17, 1775. 1,054 British soldiers crossed the harbor, landing approximately where the Constitution is presently docked, and attacked the earthen fortifications built by the colonials at the top of the hill (where the monument stands today). The British won the day, technically speaking, after they eventually drove the American colonists off the hill, but the British paid a dear price, suffering more than 500 casualties. The British retreated soon thereafter, ceding the hill back to the colonists after determining that hill no longer held any strategic value. The monument itself is open to the public, and inside you'll find a narrow spiral staircase, 343 steps, at the top of which, you'll find a small observatory, which provides really special views of Boston.
3. Old North Church One of the most historic churches in America, the Old North of Boston became famous as a result of the role that the church played in what we now know as the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. In 1775, the steeple of the Old North towered over the colonial town, serving as a beacon for ship captains navigating the Boston Harbor. By April, 1775, the majority of the colonists in Massachusetts were in open revolt against the Crown of England, and British troops had been occupying the town of Boston for more than a year. Paul Revere devised the now famous plan to use the steeple of the Old North Church to signal the people on the opposite side of the harbor in regards to British troop movements. "One if by Land, Two if by Sea" was the signal, and on the night of April 18th, 1775, the British were moving by sea on their way to the Massachusetts' towns of Lexington and Concord. That morning, the "shot heard round the world" was fired and the American Revolutionary War had begun. The church's docents give free talks regarding the history of the church.
4. Massachusetts State House Opened in 1796, it's certainly one of the most historic and most beautiful state capitol buildings in the United States. The centerpiece of red brick with the gold dome is the original part, designed by the famous American architect Charles Bulfinch, the man who built post-Revolution Boston. The white granite wings were added in 1918, but more importantly, in the rear there is a yellow brick extension which opened in 1896. Inside, there are historic portraits of every governor who has governed Massachusetts since 1620, statues and sculptures celebrating Massachusetts's contribution to democracy, historic paintings depicting the pivotal moments of the commonwealth's history, and of course, the Hall of Flags, which displays historic flags from Massachusetts' past. The building is open to the public, but because it's an active state government building, public access is subject to security measures.
5. Boston Public Library Boston's Public Library system is the first free-lending library system in the United States, and this building has served as the city's main branch since it opened in 1895. Designed by Charles McKim, it designates a clear architectural break with it's Victorian neighbors. It was a new building, for a new century, built in a style that is both Neo-Classical and Neo-Renaissance. Please go inside! You'll be greeted by a lovely staircase protected by sculptural lions. At the top of the stairs, you will find Bates Hall, one of the most beautiful library reading rooms in the world. If you continue up the stairs, you'll find the famous John Singer-Sargeant mural "Triumph of Religion."
6. Faneuill Hall Originally the town hall, or what we would today call City Hall, Faneuill Hall was the seat of Boston's town government for many years. The original building, built in 1747 was named for the Boston merchant Peter Faneuill, who financed the construction. It was ultimately destroyed by fired and replaced by a larger structure. The building we see today, is an enlargement of that second building, designed by Charles Bulfinch and opened in 1806. The first floor is and has always been a market place. Originally, one might find fresh meat and vegetables for sale, but today's tourists are more likely to find t-shirts or books or beverages to go. The real jewel, the actual meeting hall is upstairs. Please realize the entrance to the hall faces the adjacent market place and not the street.; it's the big heavy door in the middle beneath the building's tower. Open the door, there's a large staircase right in front of you. At the top of the stairs, there's another door, beyond that, that's the historic hall. Rangers from the U.S. Park Service give regularly scheduled lectures regarding the history of the building.
7. Public Garden The Garden is essentially an extension of the Boston Common, the 45-acre park in front of the State House. The Public Garden, 25 acres in size, was built upon landfill in 1857 and was meant to represent the more genteel side of Boston society. Today, it's a lovely garden sanctuary within a busy and crowded city. Technically, an open-air botanical garden, it hosts hundreds of different varieties of trees and plant-life, as well as the world famous Swan Boats, a 19th Century concession consisting of wooden paddle boats and adorned with large acrylic swans. The Garden is a popular place for wedding photos, joggers, and brown-baggers. At the west entrance, there is the famous equestrian statue of George Washington by Thomas Ball, which dates to 1869.
8. Historic Burial Grounds There are three 17th century burial grounds in the center of Boston, and they can be a surprising treat. True, revolutionary heroes such as Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock are buried here, but their grave markers are not original, and truth be told, they are not very interesting. No, the old slate stones engraved with the Puritan iconography really steals the show. The skulls, crossbones, hourglasses, dancing skeletons carved into the remarkably well-preserved slate stones are unique to the New England region. You'll also find that many of the epitaphs easily readable and their contents quite surprising.
9. Harvard Yard The historic campus of Harvard University, founded in 1636, is a short subway ride from downtown Boston. Located on the Red Line, the stop is called Harvard. Massachusetts Hall is the oldest building on the campus, dating to 1718. Next to it is Harvard Hall, dating to 1754, it is the site of the very first college building at Harvard. At the opposite side of the yard is University Hall, designed by Charles Bulfinch. In front of it is the famous statue of John Harvard, the philanthropist for whom the university is named. Be sure to get your photo taken with the statue, and please remember to touch Harvard's golden left shoe; it is said to give you good luck.
10. Freedom Trial Created in 1958 as way to help tourists navigate the winding streets of historic Boston, the Freedom Trial is a red brick line that runs along the sidewalks between the Boston Common and the Bunker Hill Monument. It covers 2.5 miles, and there are 16 officially designated historic sites along the trail. U. S. Park Rangers give free regularly scheduled walking tours of the trail that begin at their Visitor Information Center located next to the Old State House on State Street

New Boat or Used Boat? We can't decide. New Bayliner or used (15 year old Sea Ray)..?
Same price (21k). We're torn. First time boat owners. One one side, a new boat would be mechanically problem free (warranty), lower rate to buy,...however not sure we want a Bayliner. Concerned about buying a used boat due to having to hire a Marine Surveyor, Marine Mechanic, sea trial, etc. all before feeling comfortable buying. With a new boat we wouldn't need to go through all this trouble. However something about a Sea Ray.."nicer looking boat, better reputation" HELP US DECIDE!!! 15 year old Sea Ray, or brand new Bayliner?
It's a Sea Ray 215 Weekender (cuddy cabin)
I would put my money on a used "anything" before buying a Bayliner.
I know the Bayliner is very tempting. That is exactly their marketing strategy. Bayliners are made and marketed to first time boat owners - and priced accordingly. Even though they come in all sizes - they are the "Yugos" of the boating industry. I know, they can be very tempting because of the low price - that seems like such a great deal - but fact is - they are not a deal at all. They look great on the show room floor... and fresh from it... but its all down hill from that moment on.
Before you succumb to the temptation, you need to visit a few Marinas and boatyards. At first glance walking around a Marina - look for the oldest looking derelict fiberglass boat you can find. If it is a Bayliner - check the age on the MFG tag at the stern... chances are, it will actually only be a few years old and far from the oldest in the Marina - it just looks older then the rest.
Yes, they have made improvements - not that long ago - their hulls simply slit wide open while running on choppy waters. While they don't do that anymore - their entire structure is the cheapest money can buy... cheap vinyl seats, carpet, resin, fiberglass, rails, hatches, windows - and these products all deteriorate really fast in the sun.
I don't know if your "Sea Ray" deal is a good one or not - "money" wise. But I do know that Sea Ray builds quality into their boats. Assuming however, that your Sea Ray is a good value (priced right) Then for sure, it is the better boat and will still look good for many more years then the Bayliner.
All that aside... Think about this... Your Sea Ray (if you take care of it) will probably not depreciate more then $4 or $5,000 over the next 5 years... That means in 5 years you most likely (if you take good care of it) will still have a boat worth $15,000. The Bayliner will be worth about $10,000 the moment you sign for it, and most likely in 5 years will not be worth $5,000 (even if someone will buy it).
Want to compare the facts? Look up the value on 15 year old Sea Rays... and look up the value on 15 year old Bayliners - as they say... the proof is in the pudding.

I have a '93 Sea-Doo Gtx without an engine. How much will it cost me to have someone put one in it?
I have boxes of parts from the old engine, but I'm not remotely inclined to work on an engine. If it was Jeep suspension, I'd be all over it, but not an engine.
I inherited this GTX a few years ago. I currently have an '07 GTI, but my wife wants to have one of her own. I was curious whether it would be worth it to fix it up from the freebie value, or just try to find her a working newer model.
You'd be better off selling off the parts of the old one to put toward a new one for her.

A flexible impeller pump provides an efficient solution to most raw water pumping needs. The primary advantage of flexible impeller pumps is that they are self-priming, which means that when the vanes of the impeller are depressed and rebound, they create their own vacuum, drawing fluid into the pump. A dry pump can lift water up to as much as three meters. Thus a flexible impeller pump being used for engine cooling does not need to be manually primed or located below the water line. An added feature of a flexible impeller pump is that it can pass fairly large solids without clogging or damaging the pump. This reduces the need for filtration of incoming fluids.
For general or Fresh Water applications, a standard long lasting neoprene rubber impeller is used.
A general feature of all flexible impeller pumps is that they cannot be permitted to run dry for more than 30 seconds. Both the impeller and the seals require water for lubrication and will soon burn out if run dry. Parts that start to show wear are easily replaceable and service kits are readily available for most models.
Fresh Water Cooling
For circulation of the internal, closed, fresh water circuit of the cooling system it is common to use a flexible rubber pump if it is located on the cold side of the system (max. 55°C). Other types of belt-driven centrifugal pumps are also used. The closed circuit normally transfers heat from the engine to the heat exchanger. The liquid used is water and anti-freeze.
Cooling Capacity
The required output of the cooling pump is related to engine type and size, not to the size of the heat exchanger and Exhaust System. This is true for both raw water as well as fresh water handling systems.
Temperature Regulators (Thermostats)
Thermostats are usually placed in the outlet at the top of the Cylinder Head to prevent the coolant from moving to the header tank until the marine engine has nearly reached operating temperature.
There are different types of thermostats, the most common being the wax pellet type. The capsule on the lower part of the thermostat has a mixture of wax and copper (to increase the thermal conductivity) sealed in it. As the coolant temperature increases, the wax expands and forces a rod to open the poppet valve at the top of the thermostat, which allows the coolant to circulate.
Cooling System Checks
To test your thermostat, boil a pot of water and drop in the thermostat. (The water must be 100 degrees celcius--the thermostat usually opens at 85 degrees celcius.) If the thermostat opens it is okay. If it doesn't open, replace or clean carefully as they can become sticky with deposits. Yanmar thermostats can and should be regularly serviced. Some thermostats cannot be serviced.
If the thermostat doesn't work, do not remove it and run the engine without it, as the engine will run cold and tight. You can drill a series of 1/4 inch? holes to give equivalent flow to an open thermostat. This will get you home, but you must then replace it. Be careful not to fit thermostat upside down.
Thermostat housings often corrode and need to be replaced. Some can be fabricated.
The cooling system should be checked after 100 hours running, or at least once each season, for leakage, deposits, etc.
The thermostat can be taken out of the housing on the front of the engine.
The heat exchanger core should be removed bi-annually for cleaning and inspection.
Many heat exchangers are fitted with anodes to protect the expensive core. Check regularly.
The pump impeller is made of neoprene rubber and this can be damaged in the case of water deficiency if, for example, the sea-water intake should be blocked. The pump impeller trouble shooting guide will be helpful in identifying impeller problems. The sea Water Pump Impeller is changed as follows:
Remove the cover from the sea-water pump. Note that there is the risk of water getting into the boat. With the help of two screwdrivers pull the shaft with the pump impeller out of the housing as far as necessary to reach the bolt retaining the impeller. Place some kind of protection under the screwdrivers in order not to damage the impeller housing. Alternatively, using channel-lock pliers, slide jaws between blades of impeller, rotate and withdraw.
Pull the impeller off the shaft. Clean the inside of the pump housing and fit the new impeller. Always have a spare impeller on board.
Check that the pump coupling is not damaged, by trying to turn the pump impeller. Fit the cover with the original gasket, which has the right thickness.
Every boat owner should have at least a minimum understanding of their marine engine. Keep your family safe on the water, find out how to service your marine diesel engine yourself and know that it is properly maintained. Learn which spare parts you absolutely must carry on board your boat and discover how to make emergency boat repairs on the water.
does anyone know anything about a kawasaki Jet Ski model 750 zxi?
i am looking at a jetski model JH750-C1. it is a Kawasaki 750ZXI. does anyone know if this is a good ski or do they tend to have problems. it is 2stroke a 1995 and the owner says he just had the Jet Pump and impeller replaced, along with a tune up. it looks good in the picture but i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this model. do they have a good reputation? is a 2 stroke any good on a ski? (what do you think its worth) thanks
As with any motorized anything that you are looking to buy, take it for a good long test ride, like an hour or so.Cos yo gonna be riding it for years to come, You hope. Big power boater myself, I do see alot of Kawa's on the lakes, 750 is a nice size. Ask him why he had the pump and impeller replaced!!!!. And have the person selling it to you show you the paper work from the shop that did the repairs. Get the name of the shop, so you can do follow up if any Warranty might apply. Most warranties are not transferable, but atleast you will know. Have the person selling to show you any and all maintenance that was performed on the Ski. 1995 is a bit of an older model year, you are probably going to have some mechanical issues from time to time. As long as the water pump that cools the engine works correctly, and the impeller shaft brearings are in good shape. You shouldn't have too many problems. Be Safe!!

Depending on the product line, characteristics, such as leather flex zones in the waist and knee area or plastic body-armor, may be offered. Many opt for a pair of motorcycle gloves that provide extra protection for the palm of the hand, as well as the fingers and thumb. For increased protection, choose a pair that offers wrist protection. Looking for a cool pair of shades? When shopping for motorcycle apparel, you may find sunglasses in this category, but often times, these cool motorcycle accessories are not considered apparel.

Most people claim that fashion concerns only ladies, although these last years it has been seen that men and women are equally fascinated by fashion. Knowing what to wear and when to wear it is essential both for men and women, so you should always wear what looks good on you, not just what is trendy. It’s important to feel comfortable with what you are wearing and sticking to items that suit your personality and lifestyle while keeping in mind the occasion and the setting. Polo shirts such as the Nautica polo shirt and Ben Sherman polo shirt remain the some of the most classic and popular brands.
Nowadays, the Nautica polo shirt comes in a variety of colors and fabrics, being a frequent choice of stylish men all over the world. This collection is the most elegant among classic designs, offering an ideal fit, comfort and shape retention. These polo shirts are of various styles, always fresh, innovative and remarkable, being a perfect choice for men who know to appreciate such designs. You can wear Nautica polo shirts for gatherings with friends and co-workers as well as around the house. You will definitely feel comfortable in such a shirt and you will experience the joy of wearing something that suits you. Semi casual meetings are the perfect occasion for wearing polo shirts, but you can never ever go wrong wearing a polo.
There are some stores that offer the Nautica polo shirt even at discount prices, but in order to find these polos a little bit of research is necessary. However, before purchasing a polo shirt we advise you to first of all decide what the use of the Nautica polo shirt will be. For example, if you are going to wear the shirt for a golf game you should select something breathable, with a special texture for outdoor occasions. For a regular day, cotton polo shirts are ideal. Next decide whether you want a short sleeve or Long Sleeve shirt; the first type is recommended for warmer days or under sweaters while the second ones are great for fall days.
If you choose a quality shirt such as the Ben Sherman polo shirt, you will definitely be satisfied with your purchase. At present you can find cheaper shirts at discount stores but we don’t recommend them for their quality. Usually, cheap polo shirts fade and they become less acceptable with each wash while high quality Ben Sherman polo shirts will last you twice as long and will preserve its quality through time. Once you buy a shirt from a reputable store you will know what to expect and if you have any problems, they will replace the product you purchased.
It is always better to buy Ben Sherman polo shirts from a company which has a hassle-free exchange/return policy in case after a wash it gets stretched and loses its shape. If you keep these tips in mind for your next purchase, you will be happy to wear a quality Ben Sherman polo shirt that will last longer than you expected. Although most people are happy when buying something at a cheaper price, their enthusiasm fades away quickly once they notice the quality of the product.

Anyone who's tried racing their jet ski around a circuit will know that it's an excellent full body workout. Throwing your 600lb machine around the waves while trying to maintain balance and keep a tight line is hard work so it comes as no shock that jet-skiers often have extremely toned bodies.
If you were to watch a professional jet ski racer push his ski to the limits, it requires plenty of balance and a lot of strength to force the jet ski in the direction he needs it to go at such an incredible pace.
I've trained with footballers, rugby players, runners and swimmers. Despite not sharing the same sport we all had similar levels of fitness and health. It comes as no shock but to be able to compete in jet ski racing it requires a healthy body first and foremost. You simply couldn't compete otherwise.
The jet ski industry has yet to realize this but the motocross industry has, and their industry offers many courses that offer motocross training with racing in mind or just general fitness. The jet ski and motocross industries are very similar so why is there no one offering such a course?
Regular jet-skiing especially on the sea, is a great work out for your arms, legs and Upper Body strength. You can use your jet ski in a multitude of different ways depending on what section of your body you plan to train.
More people need to realize that there are other ways to exercise. Getting healthy doesn't have to be dull, why not try combining something your passionate about such as jet-skiing with your goal of getting healthy. You'll have a much better chance of reaching your goal if you love what you're doing!

Like anything left in water, eventually, water wins. No Pro riders leave their skis in the water. This should tell you something:)
