Modelling
2. If you use Non-uniform scaling (scaling in less than all 3 axes at the same time) on a model it will cause distortion problems when animating, however non-uniform scaling within a sub-object mode will not cause the same problems.
3. When in Edit Poly or Mesh, hitting 1,2,3,4 etc will cycle through the sub-object selections, and when in edit poly hiting 6 will take you out of the subobject mode. Also, Ctrl + B will cycle in/out of sub object mode.
4. Alt+X = See-though or X-Ray mode
5. To rotate around a particular vertex, select your object (or set of sub-objects) lock the selection, choose either or from the drop down list, turn on vertex snap and rotate it all by clicking on the vertex you wish as the pivot. (CLICK HERE for a tips and tricks and 3d models)
6. When in sub-poly mode, creating your own keyboard shortcuts can save oodles of time. Rather than scrolling up and down looking for "connect" and "target weld". Just assign "ALT-C" and "ALT-W" for example.
7.When modelling things at odd angles, (ie, arms, hands, feet etc) it helps to create an instance of the object, straighten it out and work on that instead.
8. Pressing + and - changes the size of the transform gizmo.
9. A sub-object selection in Edit Poly can be transfered over to another one by holding down Ctrl and clicking another mode button in the modifiy panel selection rollout. This is particularly good for the 'Ring' and 'Loop' commands in edge mode of edit poly.
Alternatively selecting the edges/verts .etc around and area (in effect, selecting a perimeter) and holding Shift whilst clicking a different selection mode will transfer over only the parts within the perimeter of the original selection.
10. The FFD modifier is a good tool for deforming meshes, its can be applied to a single mesh or multiple meshes simultaneously.
11. In later versions of max, hitting Ctrl+Backspace will remove both the edge and the vertex when in edge subobject mode.
12.Holding down CTRL when creating a a sphere, cylinder, teapot, etc. will allow you to rotate as you create. Holdings down CTRL when creating a box, pyramid, plane, etc. will create an object with even length/width.
13. When modeling wrinkles, folds, etc, on a curved surface, instead of moving your row of edges on 1 axis, convert the selection to Vertex (Ctrl + Click Vertex button under the stack) and switch your coordinate system to Local. Now, moving the slection on the Z axis will move them perpendicularly to the surface.
Alternatively you can use the 'Normal' constraint found in the edit poly modify panel for the same effect although this is only in later versions of max.
14. Modifiers such as Push and Noise can be applied to a soft selection on the previous modifier so their 'strength' varies accordingly.
15. To stop an object turning grey when freezing it, uncheck the 'show frozen in grey' in the object's porperties window.
16. Some spinner values that are limited can have that limitation overridden. But ONLY if they are animatable. Create a key in Track View for that parameter and edit its value there.
Now you can Relax by a negative amount or Spherify more than 100%.
Lighting
1. Ctrl+L switches of you lights and go back to max default 2 point lighting. Hitting it again will switch back to your own lights.
2. Pressing '9' above the letters on the keyboard will bring up the advanced lighting window
3. Selecting a light then pressing Ctrl+H lets you drag over the surface of an object to place the highlight.
4. When using a target light, selecting the line inbetween the light and its target will enable you to move/rotate both objects together.
Texturing/Materials
2. To hide the materials in the viewport select 'Object Colour' in the Shaded section at the top of the display tab.
3. You can apply a single UnwrapUVW modifier to multiple meshes simultaneously to allow them all to be unwrapped onto the same texture map a lot easier.
4. If a material is assigned to anything in the scene, small triangles appear in the corners around the material slot in the material editor.
5. Material editor is not the list of all materials in the scene, here is how to list them: Material editor > get material > scene).
6. To display an assigned texture map in the viewport click the 'Show Map in Viewport' button (the blue/white checker cube) in the 'Material Editor'.
7. Click the eyedropper tool next to the material name then click on an object the viewport and it will copy the objects material to the selected sphere.
8. An easier to use alternative to the Morpher material is to create a multi-sub material with the different materials in it then use a Material modifier on the object and animate the material ID over time. This is particularly useful in Mental Ray as that doesnt support the Morpher material.
9. You can rotate the sphere (or custom shape) in the material editor slot by holding down MMB and dragging your mouse. (you can't rotate it if you enlarge the slot window though)
10. When unwrapping uv's using copy and paste is a HUGE time saver.
11. When unwrapping selecting certain chunks and use flatten mapping to get a head start. (instead of using flatten on everything)
12. You can drag and drop images/video right into the viewports from windows explorer to create a new material with that image/video in the diffuse slot. (just use the eyedropper tool to place it in the material editor) Additionally, when dropping images/videos to different polygon selections, max assigns material IDs as needed and with the eyedropper you get a Multi/Sub-Object material.
13. Saving your uvs in .eps format will allow you to work with them as vector lines in Adobe Illustrator and wont decrease in quality as you zoom in.
14. The 'Render Map' option (right-click a sample sphere whilst in the diffuse/bump/spec slot .etc in the material editor) is great to create bitmaps using all the procedural maps, compositors, etc, available in max.
Even better, you can render animated maps to video files.
15. To unwrap in about 45sec do the following:
Select the head. Add Relax + Spherify modifiers. Crank up the relax iterations. Add an Unwrap UVW on top. Perform a cylindrical mapping (make sure the seam is at the back of the head). Delete both Relax and Spherify modifiers.
Et voilà! Now you have a pretty decent base to work from
16. A Gradient Ramp can do pretty much everything a Mix map does, PLUS a lot more!
Add more flags as needed.
Right-click the flags to access their properties and add your maps there.
Set the Interpolation to Custom to edit that property independantly for each flag.
Set the Gradient Type to Mapped and add your mask in the Source Map slot.etc.
And last but not least, Gradient Ramp has a nice set of Noise settings.
Navigation/Viewports
2. Ctrl+C in perspective viewport adds a camera to the scene and effectively saves the view you have set up in perspective mode.
3. If there are mutliple cameras in the scene "C" will bring up a list to choose from. Alternatively hitting "C" whilst a camera is selected will change the current view to that of the selected camera.
4. ALT+W = Toggle Full Size View.
5. Ctrl+X = Expert (Full screen) Mode.
6. Pressing the Up key in either Camera or Perspective viewport will enable the walkthrough mode, you can then use the cursor keys to navigate (the rest of the controls are in the help files under 'Walkthrough Navigation'
7. 'G' Toggles the maing grid from viewport
8. 'J' Removes annoying selection brackets around your objects.
9. 'I' Pans the viewport to center on the cursor position (handy if you want to draw lines/shapes which are bigger than your viewport and regualr panning cancels the command)
10. Pressing "Z" will center your zoom on the selected object. This is particularly useful when the middle mouse stops zooming in whilst in perspective mode.
11. Shift+Z will undo the last view change without undoing any commands you have performed and Shift+Y will redo the view change.
12. Mousewheel+Alt+Shift = Arc Rotate
13. Mousewheel+Alt+Ctrl = Zoom
14. Holding Ctrl down whist zooming in increases the zoom speed
15. Holding Alt down whist zooming in decreases the zoom speed
Particles
2. Snapshot also converts particles to mesh, and automatically converts it to an editable mesh whereas Mesher (above) doesn’t.
General Shortcuts
2. Pressing X with toggle the transform gizmos on and off
3. Right click a spinner to zero its value
4. Press the 7 above the letters on the keyboard for an in-viewport poly/vertex counter.
5. Hit Ctrl+N in any numeric input field you access the 'Numerical Expression Evaluator', a simple calculator.
6. Right clicking the transform controllers brings up the Transform Type-In window.
7. Right clicking any of the snaps toggles will bring up Grid and Snap Settings.
8. Hitting Q repeatedly toggles through different selection modes.
9. F3=Smooth/Shade view toggle.
10. F4=Wireframe overlay (Show Edges) toggle.
11. both Ctrl+V and Shift-Dragging clones the selected object.
12. W, E & R are the shortcuts for Move, Rotate and Scale respectively.
13. H = Selection Box (Select by List) shortcut
If you have the new selection box (max 2008+) and want the old one do the following...
find your CurrentDefaults.ini
(usually in something like... C:\yourname\yourname\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 32bit\enu\defaults\MAX
and change :
[Scene Explorer]
SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=1
to
[Scene Explorer]
SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0
save ini file and restart max
14. Spacebar = Lock Selection, this can be hit by accident and you will be unable to select/deselect objects so its good to know to deactivate too.
15. Alt+Q enters isolation mode allowing you to temporarily hide all non selected objects and zoom extents selected.
16. F12 will bring up the keyboard input window for the currently selected transform tool allowing precise values to be used.
17. ALT+D toggles the 'Snaps Use Axis Constraints'. With Vertex Snap, lets you quickly align vertices in only one or two dimensions.
18. SHIFT+X toggles the Edge Constraint. With Vertex Snap, allows you to align vertices in one or two dimensions without deforming the edge(s)
19. Ctrl-Tab switches to different tabs in dialog windows (i.e. render setup dialog).
Animation
1. Ctrl+Alt+Left-Mouse-Drag on the time line will adjust the starting frame.
Ctrl+Alt+Right-Mouse-Drag on the time line will adjust the end frame.
Ctrl+Alt+Hold Down the Mouse Wheel on the time line will pan the time line.
2. Starting in Camera View, switch to perspective view, turn on autokey, adjust the view, move the time slider on some frames, select the camera again and press Ctrl+C, the same camera will now animate to the new perspective position.
3. Got stupidly large file sizes that take ages to save and your using biped? Delete the copy collections under copy and paste in the biped menu thing, you might have loads there and they bump the file size up alot.
4. Right clicking the time line and going to Configure-->Show Selection Range will give you a bar under the keys where you can scale, move and even reverse the selected keys

101 Things You Didnt Know In 3Ds Max ...in Fact, It's 104 Things!
Related Rate Problems?
I need a bit of help getting started on these 2 related rate problems.
A conical tank (with vertex down) is 10 feet across the top and 12 feet deep. If water is flowing into the tank at a rate of 10 cubic feet per minute, find the rate of change of the depth of the water when the water is 8 feet deep.
A trough is 12 ft long and 3 ft across the top. It's ends are isosceles triangles with altitudes of 3 ft.
a). If water is being pumped into the trough at 2 cubic feet per minute, how fast is the water level rising when it's 1 foot deep?
b.) If the water is rising at a rate of 3/8 inch per minute when h=2, determine the rate at which water is being pumped into the trough.
You can only pick 1 if you want. Thanks!
1) recall that for a cone r/h = const. (this comes from similar triangles)
5/12 = const
r = 5/12 h
V = 1/3πr²h = π/3 (5/12)² h³
dV/dt = 25π/144 h² dh/dt
Now just plug in to get dh/dt

Spain is the second most visited country in the world. History oozes from every corner and in southern Spain you are practically guaranteed warm weather year-round. Spain gives you the opportunity to have an outdoor wedding surrounded by beautiful landscapes as well as a chance for all your guests to holiday, take some time out and have fun!!
With so much choice across the country, here is a review of the most outstanding spots for me. The location you choose will pretty much depend on the kind of destination wedding you have in mind, although if you still haven’t decided, this mini guide may help you get some ideas.
Malaga as a wedding destination
Malaga is an ideal choice if you are looking for a sun and sea wedding and vacation, although it has many beautiful rural spots to offer. Malaga has stunning beaches, modern facilities and great weather, not too hot – not too cold! The sea winds are not too strong in this area either, compared to further down the coast such as Cadiz.
As Malaga is mainly geared towards tourism, there are many hotels to choose from, although the entertainment options are slimmer than in other Spanish cities such as Seville or Granada. The main historical monuments can only found in the main city, whilst the coastal towns offer bars and beaches. There are, on the other hand, plenty of sea activities: taking a small cruise across the coast, scuba diving, jet skiing or simply having dinner at a restaurant on the beach…... Malaga is glamour and class.
Ideas
Malaga offers its Botanical Gardens for weddings. You can have the blessing, banquet and reception here. The Botanical Gardens used to be the home of a rich merchant family and features a stunning pergola overlooking the entire state. A great bonus is that you can do evening/night weddings, perfect in the summer when the sun doesn’t set until 9 – 10 pm.
Benalmadena, a coastal town, offer its Bil-Bil castle. This is a newly constructed castle however its charm lies on its location – practically on the beach. You can have your ceremony, banquet and reception all within the castle grounds.
Marbella boasts some amazing beach restaurants/lounges where you can have a jet-set glamorous wedding. Many of them are large enough to have a blessing in the same grounds, such as Pangaea Prive. The amazing Finca La Concepcion can also be found in Marbella and it is one of the best wedding venues I have ever seen. The finca itself is beautiful, with a remarkable entrance. Although it is only a short drive from Puerto Banus, as soon as you arrive to the Finca you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside, where the only sounds come from birds singing.
The Byblos hotel in Mijas is truly amazing and is available for weddings. The hotel is set within the Mijas Golf Course, with its stunning lakes and peaceful surroundings. Byblos is “Andalusi†inspired, combining Spanish and Arabic decoration. This is a wonderful place to have a banquet and reception as the building itself is beautiful. The restaurant is set near the pool and you can have live music until late. Speaking from personal experience, this is an amazing hotel to have your honeymoon. The rooms are luxurious, the staff make you feel like royalty, it is quiet enough to sleep-in and stay in bed as long as you want, and some of the rooms have gigantic baths!
On the other side of the coast we find Nerja, a favorite amongst many couples. Although a little far from the airport, Nerja has some fantastic views, restaurants and still keeps that bohemian look about it. There is plenty for guests to do here, including some unique caves where you can watch ballet shows in the summer. The most stunning part of Nerja is the Europa Point, fantastic for pictures. Right next to it is a great restaurant, Casa Luque, where I have attended a couple of weddings. The restaurant features a gigantic terrace on the edge of a cliff, looking right out to sea, where you can celebrate the blessing, banquet and reception.
You can create your wedding theme around the venue: For example a vintage 40’s – 50’s theme, a style that can provide a lot of entertainment and fun. Swing was in and the "cool cat" sounds of Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin were being heard in ballrooms and nightclubs everywhere. If you love the jumpin' and jivin' sounds of the 1940’s, along with glamour, then why not plan your wedding theme around this fascinating era?
A wedding in Spain does not have to mean you are limited in choice. Live music agencies such as The Tribute Band provide all styles of party entertainment, with professional musicians from all over the world. Have a look at some videos so you can start getting an idea of what atmosphere you want to create during the reception.
Pros
Cons
Seville as a wedding destination
Seville used to be the capital of Spain until, for strategic reasons, it was moved further inland to Madrid. This is the city where Columbus set sail from, scene to the romantic Carmen opera, and is in my opinion the most Spanish of all the Andalucian capitals. Surrounded by monuments dating back thousands of years, gigantic parks and a stunning river, it will give your guests (and yourselves) the chance to enjoy Spain in all its splendor. Culture and folklore emanate from every corner; Seville has the highest quality flamenco shows.
The city is very near Malaga, where there is a denser population of English speakers, therefore having a blessing in English or any other language will be no problem at all.
Ideas
Holding the wedding at a Spanish “Cortijo†or “haciendaâ€. “Cortijos†are the typical farmhouses of southern Spain. This may not sound very glamorous at first but these are in fact the most refined and noble of all. Families became rich over centuries breading horses and bulls. Photo of Cortijo.
Many of these “Cortijos†specialize in celebrating weddings. This could be a great option as you can have the blessing, the banquet and the reception all in one place. Some have even been turned into hotels and have accommodation with a suite for the bride and groom, spas, additional restaurants….
Having your destination Spanish wedding in a “Cortijo†sets the scene and theme easily. You and your guests will be in out-of-the-ordinary surroundings, making it a magical and memorable experience
Adding your touch
Having your destination wedding with a Spanish theme does not mean you have to Miss Out on adding your personal touch. Quite the opposite, use the theme as a canvas and make the wedding truly yours. I think a wedding should reflect the personalities of the bride and groom. Live music and entertainment can help you a great deal here.
A Gospel choir or even a classical guitarist, playing during your outdoor ceremony … Once the ceremony has finished a great way to greet all your guests is over a “cocktailâ€. You can have it very close to the blessing grounds and have the waiters serve appetizers and drinks. With a jazz and swing band playing in the background, you will keep your guests from getting bored until you arrive back from taking photos, and what more can you ask for: sipping on champagne, outdoors in the sun, while you listen to Sinatra’s “LOVE†played live!
A wedding in Spain does not have to mean flamenco dancers and Spanish songs. Live music agencies such as The Tribute Band provide all styles of party entertainment, with professional musicians from all over the world. Have a look at some videos so you can start getting an idea of what atmosphere you want to create during the reception.
Pros
Cons
Granada as a wedding destination
Granada was the capital of the “Andalusi†world, the Moorish kings who conquered and lived in Andalucia for over 700 years. With the Alhambra forever present, this city is a true blend of Jewish, Catholic, Moorish and modern Spanish culture.
Choosing Granada as a wedding destination offers many possibilities: Snow, City and Beach. The city of Granada is set inland although the province runs all the way down to the coast. There is also a ski resort, Sierra Nevada, with the longest skiing season in Europe. This gives you plenty of options to organize guest activities and lots to do for your own honeymoon.
Eating out in Granada is extremely reasonable and fun. It is a tradition in many bars across the city to get a free “tapa†each time you order a drink. Granada University is one of the most prestigious in Spain and therefore the city has a vast array of live music venues for all ages.
Ideas
Quite obviously, the ideal choice is to have your wedding near the Alhambra such as in the old town, the “Albaycinâ€. The noble people who lived in ancient Granada had homes in this part of the city, right next to the Alhambra palace. Many wonderful restaurants in the area have terraces with views to the beautiful labyrinths of narrow streets running across the “Albaycinâ€.
Within the forests of the Alhambra, next to the “Albaycinâ€, and the “Generalife†(residence of the sultans who lived in Spain) there is a wonderful Hacienda, “Carmen de los Chapiteles†ideal for weddings. Enchanting gardens and fountains and views of a city you will not forget easily.
Another fantastic option is the “Parador de la Alhambra†located within the Alhambra palace itself.

I have a runabout Jet Ski and was wondering if it is possible to flip it in the air?
I've seen videos of standup jetski's doing it, but not of a sit-down jetski. My jetski is powerful and I can do a lot with it, just never tried flipping it...yet.
Anything is possible with the right wave for a ramp, but the learning process could prove hazardous to your health. Just ask yourself how it would feel to have someone drop your jet ski on top of you. Even that only accounts for gravity, and disregards the forces from your forward momentum. Learning could prove lethal...

Jetski Parts

By the very nature of New Zealand's position, boating is bound to play an important part in the lifestyle of its inhabitants.
Two small islands surrounded by so much water, plus good rainfall and running rivers inland, lends itself to the imagination of a company of boat builders. The Maori, the first inhabitants, were prolific canoe builders, and in fact, came to the islands in just such a form of transport.
Part of the Government's initiative is to train people for the boating industry. They design and build yachts and boats from small dinghies to ocean going motor and sailing yachts of up to 400' in length – not the days of sailing glory that were seen in Europe, but a very good direction to encourage all the same. Another branch of training is in supporting activities like buying, selling, servicing and maintaining craft, so taking care of the boating industry in New Zealand is important.
What then is there for the visitor to do today? Well, if you intend a fairly protracted stay, you could Build Your Own sailing dinghy. You can buy proper plans and instructions, and the finished product would cost about a third of what you would pay if you bought it outright. It is about 8' in length - called “Firebug”. In a similar vein, one can purchase a rigid inflatable boat for general boating around the shoreline and resell it when you leave.
Then there are steam boat cruises on some of the lakes, in boats built especially for the cruise. Taking this type of cruise helps you to experience a bit of the past. Sailing schools exist which you can attend or there is the option of chartering a luxury sailing yacht for a week at a cost of around $2500.
Jet boating is a popular choice and an experience to talk about. Basically jets of water are sucked up and expelled out at high velocity through valves. The boat is thus propelled forward at great speed and is highly maneuverable, being able to do a 360 degree spin on the spot. Trips are generally where there's lots of whitewater, and the skipper, a master of his art, will take you close to sheer rock walls or down canyons – all at top speed. Be prepared to get wet, in fact, get soaked. The boat movement is a little like a hovercraft, very speedy but not quite off the water.
Jetski-ing is similar, like a motorcycle ride on water.
Boats can be chartered for extended fishing trips – or just day-outs.
Remember to follow boat ramp etiquette if you're at the helm. It's aimed at launching and retrieving boats so that traffic flows smoothly and unnecessary irritation to other boat owners is at a minimum.
These are some of things that can keep you occupied on the boating scene. Specific companies through whom you can book or order your preferred experience are easy to find through a search on the internet. Remember that even if you do not own your own PC in order to do this, your local library has them available to use for free.

Motorcycle Metal Flake

The age-old question has been asked more and more lately. What defines a Fighter? Well, depending how many people you ask, you'll typically get that many different answers. We'll get the obvious out of the way. Sport oriented motorcycle removed of anything unnecessary to its function. Typically stripped of most bodywork, fitted with higher rise handlebars, smaller, lighter parts to reduce weight and as much performance mods as available to make it wicked fast. So now that we have the basic idea in our head, I'd like to expand on this view of how fighters are perceived around the world.
Let's start with the motherland of Streetfighters. The grand old U.K. Home to Big Ben, Fish and Chips, Teatime and the Queen Mum. Some will argue it started back in the '50's with the Café racer. Some say true fighters begin in the early '80's with the bike messengers fighting London traffic and marring their fairings. Bike messengers don't exactly make grand salaries so instead of replacing their war torn bodywork, they simply removed them.
The basic style has remained constant over the decades. Remove fairings, add flat bars, secure dual spot headlights, and kick up the tail. For the most part the styling has remained somewhat reserved. Swap your tail section for some more attractive OEM unit from another model. Some trick paint and polish. Maybe update the running gear for the latest and greatest in go fast hardware. To top it all off, we tear the motor out and either build some octane-snorting monster or replace it all together for the biggest fastest lump that will fit.
Some things never change. There has been some crossbreeding of the genres as of late. Longer lower bikes are starting to become more popular. Not exactly slammed but set for better launch control. Also, Paint has gotten more detailed with large murals and wild colors. The drag racing scene has more them likely brought on this new trend. But also we see some return to the old school with some retro styled Café fighters. Embracing history in a very positive way.
Next we move across the channel to Germany. Fast Luxury cars, Cold Beer, Hot Bratwurst and Lederhosen, huh!? OK, the later probably isn't as prominent but it made you laugh right? Now here is a scene that pulls out all the stops. Mad amounts of Polish and Chrome, Extreme amounts of Custom Billet parts, Big Horsepower motors, Wild almost demonic bodywork, Fat Rubber and paint that jumps off the sheet metal.
Walking into a Fighter show here looks like a Candy colored Horror movie. Maybe Rob Zombie should have a look into this.
Maybe not the originators, but definitely innovators.
And here we can definitely start dissecting the genre. Here we can see a lot of unique ideas that started in this area, but there's also some Euro Cruiser/ Chopper inspiration as well. Fork tube covers are becoming more present. These covers usually smooth out the front end to make more of a seamless tube from top to bottom. Some have even gone as far as to machine grooves and designs in them to add a little extra flash to the front of the bike. More influence from the custom scene is found in dressing up the cables with bright braided lines, cleaner shinier engine covers, Stylized billet grips, Hidden axle covers, integrated handlebar risers and clamps. The list goes on forever.
Their big claim to fame being the very exaggerated tail heights compounded by short tail lengths. And the crazy looking bodywork that has got the Fighter world wanting more. Very sculpted and aggressive looking. And going along with sculpture in motorcycles is some of the tank mods that look like they were pulled from scenes of a Friday the 13th movie.
Tire size seems to be getting wider and wider around the world, but instead of just focusing on the rear tire they are paying just as much attention to the front. Widening the front wheels to except rear tire widths. 180's and 190 section tires matched with 240 and larger rears. Bringing a whole new look to the fat tire game.
If we head north we find the Nordic fighters. The land of the long night brings out some seriously mean bikes when the ice thaws. With less then 6 months of daylight let alone favorable riding weather this leaves a lot of time to tinker in the shed.
These new age Vikings like to go FAST!!!
Turbos are not uncommon when they start building fighters. And with the ever-growing drag racing scene building in the warmer months long and low goes along with the fast and mean theory.
What is neat is some of the paint schemes that come along with these bikes. Leaning a bit towards the American Hot Rods of yore Flames are most notable. Although, it's not necessarily traditional flames. Some opt for tribal licks or lay them out in candy and flake.
But the other scene that's gaining ground is Stunt riding. MX bars, cages, 12 bars, hand brakes strapped to naked bikes and adorned with all the sponsors and eye catching paint they can get.
The Land Down Under is stepping up the game with some very clean and tasty fighters. They have some of the very well engineered and eye-catching fighters I have seen. Adopting some global fighter styling, but also putting the Aussie spin on it. Very unique ideas and adaptations are happening. It's a good mix of English cleanliness along with German extreme. Big power bikes are definitely abundant along with a healthy dash of polish and bling.
Here in the Good old USA and our friends to the North, Canada, the Fighter scene came to be by way of the stunt world. Once again form followed function when plastic got shattered learning all the crazy tricks and combos.
Some felt they had more maneuverability and control on a naked stunter as apposed to a fully faired bike. Soon naked bikes started popping up more and more.
Some saw a resemblance to the chopper crowd, but liked the power and handling of a sport bike as apposed to the lumbering sled of a cruising machine.
Others grew up on the pegs of a dirt bike and felt the natural switch to big bars and tall seats.
Others remember the hey day of the Jap invasion and wanted to recreate the classic CB's, GS' and KZ'. Some just felt the need to stand out in the crowd and build something different.
We are also taking bits and pieces from around the globe and making our own style.
From caged and barred stunters to lean mean hooligan machines to full on customs that rival any big bank account chopper.
Looking around the world we see many different styles that share a key piece of their culture but also we are seeing a mix of cultures trickling through to create new and interesting ideas. What's next to roll from the garages sheds and work shops around the world? Only time will tell. With our global world the possibilities are limitless. What will you create to set the Fighter world on fire?

Which automotive paint has the largest metal flake silver (metallic)?
I want to match the original gelcoat - large flake silver metallic - on a 1972 Ducati 450 Desmo. This motorcycle had what looked like some of the fiberglass power boat finishes that were popular at the time. It was called the Silver Shotgun by some. I would like to use a urethane base automotive finish rather than the original polyester gelcoat. Thanks!
PPG and House of Kolor have some of the best finishes out there. The best way to select the right paint is to stop by a local body shop and ask to look at their paint sample books and tell them what you looking for. I'm sure you will find something that looks close to the old ShotGun. Or you might even find something you like better! --Good Luck!

Electric Start Flywheel

In today’s ‘energy-challenged’ business environments where demand is beginning to outweigh supply and costs are rising ever higher, heads of business are looking for alternative sources of standby back-up power protection to reinforce uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and provide a continuous source of electricity during mains power failures.
The primary criteria in deciding which alternative to choose are usually: space constraints, location, cost, load types and application. Diesel generators, in particular, require dedicated space away from protected loads and primary work areas, plus room for fuel storage. They are often housed in purpose-built enclosures for which planning permission must be granted and sometimes this can be a challenge in primary urban areas where building and planning restrictions may exist. The issue of cost can often preclude up-coming alternatives like fuel cells, which can overcome some of the difficulties associated with diesel generators but at a price. Load types, too, can be a challenge in terms of how they draw voltage waveform and its effect on standby power generation equipment. However, the following are alternatives that are commercially available:
Diesel Generators: a generator is a mechanical device capable of providing a source of ac electrical power on-demand or as an alternative to mains power supply. In an uninterruptible power supply scenario a generator is used as a standby source of three or single-phase ac power to supplement the runtime provided by the UPS battery set or alternative source of dc power. It may also directly power essential loads such as alarms, air-conditioning or emergency lighting in the event of a power cut.
A generator typically takes up to a minute before it can deliver a suitable supply on start-up, which is why an uninterruptible power supply sits between it and the source of mains power.
Generators burn fuel (diesel being the most common and cost-effective) but they emit heat, noise and exhaust gasses. Generator fuel is usually stored in what is referred to as a ‘day tank’, located on-site, which typically contains eight-hours of supply. This can be supplemented by bulk tanks, also located on-site. Fuel storage on-site introduces health & safety and environmental regulations that must be observed. Some experimentation has been done using bio-fuels but the problem is not so much in usage as in storage. Because they are comprised of organic matter bio-fuels cannot be stored.
Fuel Cells: are increasing in popularity across a number of applications due to their high-efficiency and purported ‘green’ credentials i.e.: zero exhaust emissions. A fuel cell uses a chemical reaction, which occurs when Hydrogen and Oxygen combine to produce water. It harnesses this reaction to produce electrical energy. Fuel cells have two potential UPS applications: an alternative source of ac power to mains or as support to an existing battery set.
UPS Batteries: today’s UPS batteries are typically sealed lead acid and maintenance-free with a design life of five years. As they rely on a chemical process they are prone to deterioration and the speed at which this happens is dramatically affected by room temperature and number of charge/discharge cycles the battery has to perform during its lifetime.
A ‘battery block’ is a self-contained electro-chemical device that can store electrical energy for later use. A UPS battery set comprises a number of battery blocks connected in series into a ‘string’, or number of battery strings.
Flywheels: are energy storage devices based on the principle of Kinetic energy, whereby a motor-generator is used to rotate a mass at high RPM in a vacuum on frictionless bearings inside a floor-mounted cabinet. They provide a source of short-duration dc power and can be used with large application UPS, around 60kVA upwards. As energy is discharged to the load on demand, flywheels can be used in place of a battery set to ride through the time required for generator start-up.
Gas Turbines: a descendent of the Jet engine, like generators, Gas Turbines are a combustion device with similar installation and operational issues. Advances in technology have lead to the development of commercially viable energy-saving applications and the devices are finding useful roles within power protection projects. There are two designs: single shaft (which has a turbine and compressor on the same shaft and output of which is speed controlled by the fuel supply) and two-shaft (which has a higher operating efficiency but poor response to load change). A micro-turbine operates at even higher speed, is compact in design, lighter weight and can run on a variety of fuels.
Super Capacitors: store electrical energy, which can be released on discharge. For small uninterruptible power supplies this can be used in place of a battery set or to reduce the potential for battery discharge during momentary mains power supply failures. The amount of energy that can be stored depends upon the active material used and the capacitor design.
The energy within a capacitor is quickly available. They can extend the working life of a UPS battery set (if used in conjunction) by inhibiting battery cycling for momentary or small interruptions (the majority of power interruptions last for less than five seconds). Super capacitors are also happy to operate in temperatures ranging from -30-45 degrees centigrade but they are pricey in comparison to UPS batteries.
Whilst generators remain the most popular source of standby power in uninterruptible power supply applications, there are alternatives, which may be more relevant and suitable in certain instances. Where planning permission cannot be granted for external generator housing, for example, a fuel cell may be an ideal alternative. Flywheels may also be a viable option as an alternative power protection energy source for larger uninterruptible power supplies.

my scooter won`t start because the kick starter has a problem?
when i crank, the spark plug lights but the engine won`t start. i also used the electric starter but it only turn the flywheel but wont start. the horn and the signal lights are working.plus my battery is new. what seems to be the problem?please help me. thanks..
also when i also when i push the electric starter the spark plug won`t light.
if you say you checked the sparkplug getting spark from the STATOR, i believe you. then it's the Fuel Filter. I had my first fuel filter go after like 1000 miles. I bought a universal replacement from Home Deeper and it worked fine for many thousands of miles after.

need starter for 1956 johnson 30 hp outboard?
That starter was common to Many Models. Almost any of the 25 hp, to 40 hp in the six volt category will fit. Including Evinrudes. You can easily convert to 12 volts with just a solenoid change, and light bulbs, and go all the way up into the 70's. The voltage is stamped on the side of the starter.

Boat Out Ladder

If you own a boat, in some time, you will likely decide to purchase boat accessories, boat equipment, and boat supplies. However, the market is filled with different types of boat accessories, and boating Equipment. Not all of them are necessary or even useful for your boat. At the same time, there are other boat accessories, which are useful for your boat and will help extend the life of your boat and very well could help to save your own life.
Other boat accessories and boating products are nice to have since they will make your time out on the water more enjoyable. So when it comes to choosing boat accessories it is important that you choose the right ones that can keep you safe on the water and keep your boat in a good condition.
The boat equipment and boat accessories you choose to buy will be based largely on the type of boat that you have. If you have a fishing boat, for example, you will be choosing boat accessories that are very different from those that you would buy for sail boats or yachts. Before you go shopping for your boat supplies and boat accessories it’s a good idea to research exactly what your boat will need. It is even a good idea to have a list of the necessary boat equipment and boat accessories before you begin your shopping trip.
Some of the most essential boat equipment that every boat owner should have on hand before going out on the water includes: life jackets, anchors and lines, ladders, mirrors, paddles, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment, lights and any necessary maintenance equipment to make sure your boat is always running in optimal condition.
Each of these items has a different purpose on a boat, but they all have the purpose of helping to keep you and your passenger’s safe while caring for your boat so you don’t become stranded on the water. When you go out on the water always remember to wear your life jackets or at the very least keep them someplace where you can have quick and easy access to them.
Boat accessories, boat equipment can do more than just keep you safe and keep your boat in working order. Choosing other non-essential boat accessories can not only make your time on the water more enjoyable, but they can also increase the value of your boat, if you decide to resell.
Some non-essential boat accessories to consider include: boat fenders, boat heaters, water skies, wakeboards, radios and speakers, marine autopilots, fishfinders and GPS. This isn’t a complete list of accessories, but it can help you to see the options available to you when it comes to adding boat accessories and equipment.
You can find more boat accessories at http://www.boatersmarinesupply.com/

Honda Fourtrax reverse trouble?
I have an older Fourtrax 300 2-wheel drive ( just bought) and I can't get it into reverse. Cable is hooked up and moving the lever, but it will not engage. I don't have a manual and I'm leary about opening it up. Anybody have any ideas on what may be wrong and how to repair or adjust?
There should be a button on the left hand brake lever. You need to push down on the button with your left index finger, squeeze the brake lever and push the gear selector downward to apply reverse. I own a 1990 300 fourtrax. CAN'T KILL EM'

Lower Unit Reverse

Vasectomy reversal is a common procedure performed in clinics through out the United States and an increase has been observed in the number of men choosing to opt for this procedure in recent years. There can be several reasons for a man to consider this surgery; from divorce to the death of a child or the desire to increase his brood. Either way, vasectomy reversal is a convenient way to regain your fertility. Even though the procedure has a good success rate, choosing the correct clinic will certainly have a bearing on the efficacy of the procedure. So here is a look at how to evaluate a vasectomy reversal clinic.
In your quest to find the most appropriate clinic to handle your vasectomy reversal procedure, you will come across several medical facilities and the first thing that you should check is their experience in handling such procedures. While some clinics exclusively handle vasectomy reversals others offer a gamut of fertility related services including tube litigation reversal, in vitro fertilization etc. Needless to say, if a clinic handles more than one procedure, the experience and the efficiency of th staff to handle a particular procedure is compromised while if you choose a clinic that only handles vasectomy reversals, you can be reasonably sure that the staff will have ample of experience in handling the various issues that may be encountered during the surgery.
Another issue faced by people who opt for multi procedural clinics is the fact that the staff inevitably tries to persuade the patients to choose the more expensive IVF procedure over vasectomy reversal. IVF has a lower success rate than vasectomy reversal and it is considerably more expensive; also the fact that it is a multi stage procedure makes it far less convenient than your regular vasectomy reversal surgery.
When choosing a clinic you should also carefully evaluate the accreditations received by the establishments and the institutions or medical bodies that have given these accreditations. It is very important to choose an establishment that holds a license from the state in which it resides. This information will usually be proudly displayed in a clinic in a place where patients can easily see it. However, if you fail to see such a certification, take the time out to ask the staff about it.
The reputation and the qualifications of the doctors and the staff are also equally important constraints that should be carefully checked before choosing a clinic. Good clinics will usually have ways in which you can check their feedback from previous customers and they will usually be happy to furnish contact information so that you can talk to prior patients.
The internet is another tool that can be used to learn more about the reviews of a particular medical establishment. With a little bit of effort, you should be able to find what patients have to say about a clinic and the after care that they received from the establishment. You will also be able to check the number of people who recommend the clinic based on their experiences.
A fairly simple way of evaluating the repute of a clinic is to quiz the support staff about the success rate, former patients and their contact details. If they squirm at the thought of answering these questions or are not particularly forthright, you can be reasonably sure that there must be some very dissatisfied customers lurking in their background.
Also, ensure that you check the background of the surgeon who performs the procedures. You will find that while some doctors have immense experience and have also been instrumental in introducing measures to improve the procedure and the success rate, others will be fairly new. Ensure that you meet the surgeon before you even consider getting the surgery done through the clinic. Ask him about the success rate and the possible complications that may be experienced. A good doctor will be very honest about your chances of having a child after the surgery.
Finally, the last factor that should be considered is the cost. Generally the cost of vasectomy reversal procedures range from $7000 to $10,000 but it can be steeper. There may some additions to this expenditure if you have complications or need additional tests.

HVAC: Help matching Friedrich PTAC heat pump wires to Hunter thermostat.?
I have a Friedrich PTAC model #PDH15K - manual indicates we can use this with any "24v single stage remote wall mounted thermostat".
I want to use a Hunter 44360 programmable thermostat, the specs say it can be used with a single stage heat pump.
The PTAC has the following connections specified in the manual:
C - Common Ground
W - Call for Heating
Y - Call for Cooling
R - 24v Power from Unit
GL - Call for Low Fan*
GH - Call for High Fan*
B - Reversing Valve Energized in heating mode
*Either ONE of GL or GH may be hooked up, they don't both have to be used.
The thermostat has the following connections:
G - Fan
RH - 24 Volt
RC - 24 Volt Cool
Y/O - A/C compressor
W/B - Heating
Y1 - Heat Pump compressor
I called Friedrich tech support. They insist this needs SINGLE STAGE heat pump thermostat. I called Hunter tech support, they insited this must be multi-stage heat pump due to the wires I described to them.
What wires need to be hooked up to which terminals?
James M -CLUELESS
sorry that stat will NOT work on that unit. The ptac operates as follows.
C -common
r- 24v hot
gl and gh- fan speed pick one
w- is auxillary electric heat
y- is compressor
b- energizes valve in heating mode
Now that being said when a heat call is sent you need to energize Y,GL or GH, and B. W is only energized when the heat call is set high. In basic terms you need a 2 stage heat and one stage cool heat pump stat. The hunter stat will not operate this way , sorry. You can wire it up as follows but you will not be able to turn on the electric heat. R to rc and rh,g to gh, y to y1, and b to w/b. No common or w. Get a 2 stage heat pump stat and then you will be in good shape.

Fish Tackle Light

Fishing can be an extremely enjoyable and relaxing adventure. As long as you have the right tools, the fishing safety knowledge, and a little bit of support from friends or family, you could perform your fishing successfully.
However, the most overlooked factor in buying equipments is choosing the right fishing tackle. You should follow these simple guidelines in the selection of tackles.
1) You should choose the appropriate fishing flies that you would be using to catch the kind of fish you will be targeting to seize. The basic rule in choosing the kind of fly is to know which is abundant in that actual environment.
2) Once you have determined which fly to use, you should be able to choose the appropriate line to use. The three commonly used tackles are fly-fishing, plug casting and spinning. The difference between the three is that spinning and plug-casting makes use of bait as weight to drag the line from its reel to the target point of your fishing.
3) Fly lines come in four different types - weight-forward, double taper, shooting-taper and level taper. Within the four different types are numerous variations. However, once you have decided what kind of fishing wish to accomplish and what kind of fish you wish to catch, you will be using only a particular fishing line.
The fishing lines have numbers that rank from one to fifteen. However, the most common among anglers are the lines numbered from three to twelve in weight. As a basic rule for optimum catching, the first thirty feet of your line should be weighted and matched to the rod.
4) The next thing you should purchase is the rod and reel. The most suitable equipment for beginners is the spin-casting gears that is easy to operate and provides the least setbacks. For any kind of fishing, the recommended spin-casting reel is mounted on a light-action six-foot casting rod and spooled with an eight-pound test line. The reel and rod could be purchased as a package in many fishing stores. Most professional anglers prefer bait-casting and spinning tackle.
5) You would need sinkers, hooks and bobbers. Sinkers and hooks could be bought in different pack with different styles and sizes. When selecting bobbers, always keep in mind that the smaller the bobber, the better the performance. The struggling of the fish would depend on the size of your bobber.
6) Professional anglers prefer artificial lures. The recommended sizes of lures are 1/8 ounce up to ¼ ounce.
Remember that the kind of tackle would depend on the fish you prefer to catch. Avoid buying unnecessary fishing items and enjoy your affordable fishing experience.

Anyone catch muskies on light or medium tackle.?
Trying something a bit different this year, I am going to try to hook a muskie or two while fishing from my Old Town Otter Kayak. The problem is I wont be able to carry the heavy gear normally used to catch'em. I was wondering if anyone has ever had luck using light/medium tackle ?? If so what type of lures/bait were you using??
use a larger rooster tail, lots of people catch them on that
